Author: Philip Elliott

Narrator: Robert Svetlik

Series: Angel City, Book 1

Length: 7 hours 29 minutes

Publisher: Into the Void

Released: Sep. 10, 2019

Genre: Noir Thriller

Eddie Vegas made a terrible mistake. Now he has to pay the price. After a botched debt collection turned double murder, Eddie splits, desperate to avoid his employer, notorious LA crime boss Saul Benedict, and his men (and Eddie’s ex-partners), Floyd and Sawyer, as well as the police. Soon, he becomes entangled with the clever and beautiful Dakota, a Native American woman fresh in the City of Angels to find her missing friend - someone Eddie might know something about. Meanwhile in Texas, ex-assassin Rufus, seeking vengeance for his murdered brother, takes up his beloved daggers one final time and begins the long drive to LA. When the bodies begin to mount, Detective Alison Lockley’s hunt for the killers becomes increasingly urgent. As paths cross, confusion ensues, and no one’s entirely sure who’s after who. But one thing is clear: They’re not all getting out of this alive. As much a love letter to neo-noir cinema and LA as it is satire, the first book in the Angel City novels is a lightning-speed crime thriller equal parts Elmore Leonard and Quentin Tarantino.

RockStar Book Tour ~ Charlie Hernandez And The Castle Of Bones by Ryan Calejo

Author : Ryan Calejo

Published Date : November 12, 2019

Publisher : Aladdin

Series : Charlie Hernandez / Book 2

Genre : J Fiction / Adventure / Fantasy

Rating : 5 Star

Goodreads / Amazon / BookBub / Google Play

About The Book

Charlie Hernandez still likes to think of himself as a normal kid. But what’s normal about being a demon-slaying preteen with an encyclopedic knowledge of Hispanic and Latino mythology who can partially manifest nearly any animal trait found in nature? Well, not much. But, Charlie believes he can get used to this new “normal,” because being able to sprout wings or morph fins is pretty cool.

But there is a downside: it means having to constantly watch his back for La Mano Peluda’s sinister schemes. And when the leader of La Liga, the Witch Queen Jo herself, is suddenly kidnapped, Charlie’s sure they’re at it again.

Determined to save the queen and keep La Liga’s alliances intact, Charlie and his good friend Violet Rey embark on a perilous journey to track down her captors. As Charlie and Violet are drawn deeper into a world of monstruos and magia they are soon left with more questions than answers—like, why do they keep hearing rumors of dead men walking, and why is Charlie suddenly having visions of an ancient evil: a necromancer priest who’s been dead for more than five centuries?

Charlie’s abuela once told him that when dead men walk, the living run in fear. And Charlie’s about to learn the truth of that—the hard way.

The Review

I'm gonna say this first, y'all need to read the first book in this series (Charlie Hernandez & The League Of Shadows)  to fully understand this story or else it won't have that special vibe that you carry over from the first book!

After the events of the first book well past Charlie and his family, Charlie is having to learn his new found power while trying to please his parents who don't want him out of their sight, especially mama. Only when a new threat is discovered when the Witch Queen is kidnapped that Charlie discovers that something else is happening to the dark world that only Charlie can save. With his trustworthy friend Violet by his side, Charlie goes deep to rescue the Queen while putting their lives in danger with an ending that will wishing that the third book is out already just to see what will happen next!!

I'm not a huge lover of Fantasy books but this series has me totally wrapped into it or maybe it's just because I have grown up on the border and know the culture well. Either way, this book goes deeper in the world of mythology and culture that you can actually picture yourself with Charlie and Violet, as they fight their way to the truth. This book or series just isn't all serious though, it will have a few laugh out loud moments that will leave you wanting more.

My only problem with this book is the simple fact that we now have to wait for the next book to come out to see what will happen next for Charlie and the people he meets!!

Thank You to Ryan Calejo for this fantastic installment in this series that I so hope doesn't end soon!!

I voluntarily reviewed this book from the Publisher!

RockStar Book Tour ~ Who Named Their Pony Macaroni? by Marilyn Singer

Author : Marilyn Singer
Published Date : October 1, 2019
Publisher : Disney Hyperion
Genre : J Non-Fiction / History / Poems
Rating :

Goodreads / Amazon / Google Play / BookBub

About The Book

A family of mice. A runaway goat.
A mischievous snake.
A shocking parrot.
A pardoned turkey.
A pampered raccoon.
A ghostbusting dog.
A celebrity cow.
The White House housed more than presidents and First Families--who could forget the furry, scaly, feathered friends who impressed the press, guarded their charges, and kept them company through all the ups and downs of their respective terms?

Marilyn Singer's compelling poems will delight readers with stories of the creatures who sat beside our country's leaders, as she draws intriguing connections between the animals and the administrations they accompanied. Mixed-media illustrations by Ryan McAmis lend humor and vivacity, and detailed back matter explores each president's pet history in more depth.
The Review

I love books like this one that teaches kids about the history of the pets in the White House in the most positive way ever!

You learn about who had the first pardoned turkey to which first lady had silk worms as a pet and even, a cow who provided fresh milk and butter for the family! Each poem is short and sweet with a bit of history included that makes it fun to learn about all these pets that have lived in the White House. I think my favorite part was in the back with each president getting a paragraph of what pets they had, that was more informative from my view point! The Illustrations were not bad but it could have been done a little bit better to fit this book.

Thank You to Marilyn Singer for this good read that is perfect for young kids to learn about the famous pets of the White House!!

Kids learn best through stories. Empower your child to own their feelings with this beautifully illustrated picture book by award-winning author, M.C. Goldrick.

Brad's dog Plaid shows him how to feel and deal with emotions. Though Brad is having a bad day, Plaid shows him that it's in his power to choose his perspective and his feelings.
The Review

This was an interesting picture book for kids that are learning how to deal with their emotions. It was done in a way that all kids can understand the story with the young boy just having a bad day and letting his emotions take over him until he soon realizes that even though he yelled at his dog, the dog is still happy. I think that it teaches the simple thing of living in the moment and that alone is something that more people need to learn or at least in my mind it does.

Any book that teaches kids a valuable life lesson is a good book to have in any Library! Plus, any book that has a dog to help teach the lesson is just total icing on the cake!

Thank You to M.C. Goldrick for this good book with those awesome illustrations!
